Anthropologie Review - Chambray Shirts

Chambray shirts are everywhere this season - and no wonder - they are a perfect neutral that can be paired with just about anything. Liberty print pants? Pair with chambray. Neon pencil skirt? Throw on some chambray. This year's twist seems to be the fabric. I have seen so many of these style shirts made out of Tencel, a rayon like fabric. Anthropologie is selling many and I've even seen some at TJMaxx and Nordstrom Rack.

Bella Dahl Fitted Button Down in Classic Vintage Wash (size S)

I bought this at Nordstrom Rack for way under the listed price. The good news about Tencel is that it makes the shirt drape beautifully. The bad news is that it is a significantly heavier fabric than some of the really lightweight chambray options out there. I'm really town between getting something in a light or dark wash. In general I'm a little scared of chambray since it reminds me of a western style shirt I had in the 80's. This is a size small and fits slightly big but definitely right.

Fitted Chambray Buttondown (size S) in Light Denim
I blogged about this shirt before. These run quite small and unfortunately I think I'm in between sizes. I love the way the small fits everywhere except the hips! The last two buttons are really pulling across my hips, yet when I sized up the shirt looked really sloppy. Hmmm... what to do.

What is your favorite way to wear chambray? Have you found a perfect chambray shirt?

  1. I am just a touch obsessed with chambray, and I find that despite rejecting the 'western' look initially, I think I'm veering more and more towards it. My new fave top is the patchwork chambray from anthro- now, when I tried it on at the store, 2 of the same size fit slightly differently. Maybe try another? And in a pinch, I sometimes get the larger one and throw it in the dryer to get that extra bit of shrink.

That being said, I am still dithering between the larger and the smaller of the size at the store!

    1. argh, and on the same topic, have you tried the J Crew butterfly blouse? Can't decide how much size variance there might be between sizes- just got one with the 20% promo and I think the upper sleeves are a touch tight...but soooooooo pretty!

  2. Definitely like the darker chambray over light..but why not have both. You really can wear with anything. To avoid looking too western go for one with only one pocket. If it doesn't fit quite right just move over to the next store. Like you said everyone's got them. You'll find the perfect one soon.
