J. Crew Review: Summerweight Linen Sweater and Andie Chino

Ok. So I never order final sale unless I've tried on that exact style, in the exact size, in the exact color. But somehow something came over me the other day. I've been wanting to pick up a little summer linen sweater because I usually love them at J Crew but they sold out of my store before I even got to try them on. Then I kept on meaning to order one when it popped back online before final sale, but it never popped back in "my size". So the other day - there it is - and I order it, fool that I am, and pray it fits.

Well, this time, luckily, it is a final sale success....

Summerweight Linen Sweater (01093) (size XXS) in Frost Blue (currently sold out online)

Please ignore the center pose, I don't know what's wrong with me sometimes :) I think I'm trying to show that it is slightly oversized but in an absolutely perfect, laid back, summer way. This is one size down from my normal size. The length is perfect and I love the nice open boatneck. The sleeves are not full length. It is lovely and great for hiding BBQ belly.

A close up of the fabric and a more accurate depiction of the color. Definitely a frost blue and not too gray. Yummy.

Andie Chino (size 0) in Steely Grey
Uh-Oh. Love these. Perfect length, nice thick cotton, very stretchy but don't seem like they'll have butt bag by the end of the day. Love the deep dark grey. TTS. I'm not sure what to say except I always wait for a sale but I'm not sure I'll be able to with these! They are just a lovely slim chino - much like the Trouper of yesterday and much better than the skinny utility pant which I did not like at all.

With heels I think they look even better. Chic. I want.

Here's my other love about them - 2 buttons and tab closures! YAY! No random top opening. AND... a nice thick waistband for holding in the aforementioned BBQ belly.

What do you think? Do you have either of these items?

  1. Hi, there! Avid reader / lurker here, and first time commenter! Love both! I'm going to check the site FIRST THING tomorrow morning for a possible pop back of that sweater! I love it so much on you. I would have never thought it would look like that on. Question for you - If you know, what size are you in the Scout Chino? I want to order these Andie's but not sure about the sizing.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Elizabeth! I feel absolutely positive that sweater will popback. It's been hanging out in the sale section forever so I was actually surprised that it wasn't there today. The XXS is a bit elusive but I had no problem snagging it one morning. I also take a size 0 in the scout chino (sometimes I can even size down but I prefer the 0). These 0's fit perfectly and were snug but I could tell they would give a bit with wear.

  3. I agree with Elizabeth about the sweater. It looks so great on you, now I want one too. I do see a short-sleeve striped version in the blue. I will be stalking the long sleeve one.

I'm so glad you reviewed the Andie chinos. These caught my eye the first time I saw them. I tried the Utility chinos, too. They looked great in the front, not so much in the back, too bootylicious for me. I have quite a few of the Cafe capris, but they sag terribly in the butt. The Andie chinos look fabulous. I wonder if they will sell out, may be a full price purchase for me.
Thanks so much for the reviews.

    1. Thanks! Every once in a while I get lucky, and I'm glad they did, because I would have been really annoyed if it was terrible!

  5. I forgot to ask. Did you try the Andie chinos in the petite or the regular length?

    1. These are regular and I am 5'4". I definitely wouldn't want petite. I'm hoping they resist sagging. They seem like they will do better than Cafe Capris since they are a thicker fabric.

  6. Can you comment on the rise of the Andies? The rise on those Boyfriend Chinos out this summer (Waverly?) hits me in a terrible spot and gives me baggy crotch if you can compare the 2? They looked cute in the email I got and great on you! TIA!

  8. Oh, the Andies look great!! I may have to try those at some point! I invested in a pair of the crop twill pants from anthro and I quite like them, so we'll see!
