A review and a favor... Liberty Popover in Strawberry Thief Floral

This has certainly been the year of Liberty at J Crew. I am in love with so many of their liberty patterns! The June's Meadow was so wearable, the Tresco Floral was so fun and in your face and the Floral Eve was so classic. Now comes Strawberry Thief! What to do...

Liberty Popover in Strawberry Thief Floral (size 2)

Sorry my pics are so dark. I have to figure out a new place to take them. This shirt is lovely. It is darker so I don't think you notice the intricacy of the pattern from far away as much. IRL it is brighter. The closeups of the pattern are much more accurate. I love the bright pink and turquoise in the shirt. The fit is pretty standard fare and I don't really mind it being a popover. Works well tucked in. I AM IN LOVE with this print. Just so charming and beautiful. Le sigh. Will it make it to sale?

Painter Tee in Colorblock (size S)
This isn't even showing up on the website anymore. So weird. It recently got marked down to $24.99. I ordered it at full price (as a popback - this thing keeps selling out!) the day before some major markdowns and then just thought I would inquire as to whether or not it had also been marked down and it had! $24.99 + 40% off is quite deal considering I would have paid full price. I sized up on this one and almost would have gone up 2 sizes for a little more casual slouch.

So here's my favor. I love these Madewell Sungarden jeans but I can't decide which pair to keep. First off, I've gained a few pounds this summer (oops summer pizza, pasta and drinks :) so both are a wee bit tight. But, I can't seem to decide which pattern placement is more flattering. I initially thought the pair on the right looked better because there are more areas of dark (which I thought would be slimming). But then I thought the darkness across the thighs looked better on the left pair. Anyway - I can't decide. Can you help? Am I being insane thinking that the pattern is more flattering on one than the other?

40% continues... I'm hoping to shut off my inner shopper alarm and not check the sale in the early morning!

  1. Oh I love that Liberty shirt! I think you should keep the jeans on the left because they look like they fit you better from the back. From the front, they both look equally good with regards to the pattern placement. Could the ones on the right be a bit too big?

    1. Thanks, Cate! I don't know what's up with the butt picture on the right - they definitely are the same amount of tight. I think I'm just posing oddly :) Thank you so much for weighing in (and saying they might be too big since right now I am feeling a bit poufy :)

  2. I think the pattern is too dark around the front hip/crotch area on the left pair. It seems more even & balanced through the hip & thigh on the pair on the right side. The pattern on the right looks better imo.

Good closeups of the Liberty print. There aren't any that I have to have. Only cuz Old Navy knocked off some florals this spring & that was enough for this stripesick person. ;)

    1. Thanks, Gigi! I can always trust your discerning eye. There were a few liberty like ON shirts this spring that were awesome. I'm a sucker for the real thing but only on sale!

  3. I like the Liberty print, too - not sure if this is your style, but I got these shoes in the print, they are very cute: http://www.journeys.com/shi/product.aspx?id=252517&003=18254030&010=498058&gclid=CKeu-Z6k0bgCFY87MgodfzwA_A

    1. I love the print too. I have the Keds in the Sungarden print. Adore. The 40% off is really ruining me but I have to remember that these huge clearance sales really only happen twice a year. So, enjoy and then no more spending :)

  5. You are not at all insane [either that or we both are ;)]. This is something I would do, too. I like the print placement on the left photo better, especially in the back.

Thanks for the close-up of the Strawberry Thief print. It is so lovely. I'm not sure I could pull off the shirt though. I hope JC offers the print in another item.

    1. Thanks, Maryeb. The Strawberry Thief print is so absolutely gorgeous. I think it's a very versatile print - the darker colors make it more wearable IMO.

  6. You are not insane, or I'm crazier than you! I tried on four pairs of those Madewell jeans before deciding. They are so cute. I'm afraid you might get a split vote as I agree with Gigi I like the pattern placement on the right, my eyes are drawn to your knees since that's the lightest area. However, it does seem they fit a bit larger than the left.

I'm addicted to Liberty shirts as well, missed out on Floral Eve twice but I have the others you mentioned, not yet the Strawberry Thief. That one is now on my list, so pretty and I love the birds.

    1. Yay! Glad it's not just me! I love the pattern but boy am I having trouble deciding. I noticed the Floral Eve got marked down to $99.99 - there was a phantom popback one morning - so if you can nab it, it's a pretty decent deal!

  7. Hi, I also agree with Gigi. I think the ones on the right look lighter in the inner thighs and crotch and to me make you look taller than the left ones that are dark in the center thigh. And, you are totally sane. I would do the same thing but I am surprised they vary so much.

    1. Thanks, Skekster, for weighing in. It's very helpful as I have tried on these pants about a zillion times and still can't quite bite the bullet on which pair to keep. All this for jeans that I finally snagged for $20!

  8. shoot- I like the left set of photos. I guess we're not very helpful to you, except to commiserate in your indecision! I hate choosing between sizes- that's my problem!
I haven't been checking out JC lately, but I love the details of the strawberry print- and have always been a big William Morris fan!

    1. Tee hee, I know it's so funny! Part of it is the photos too. The right ones are no bigger but look bigger in the butt photo. Mostly it makes me so appreciative of lovely ladies like yourself who take the time to comment!

I am in love with the strawberry thief print since I will pretty much buy anything with a bird on it.

  9. For some reason, the pants on the left side make you look skinnier. Of course I would go with those.
