J. Crew Reviews - Sale!

I've been off the Crewlade for quite a while now but the most recent insane markdowns + 30% off in store (plus educator discount) have really been tempting me. Went in today for round 2 of sale items:

Top in Colorblock Stripe (size 2) in Festival Green
Boo. The colors are my fave - cobalt blue and vibrant green but the fit is somewhat baggy even in my normal size 2. I just felt silly and wide.

No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Cotton  (size 0) in Marrakech Purple

The color is lovely. As I was putting this on, all I could think was - my God have I put on weight? Then I realized I was trying on a size 0. Duh. I did try on a size 2 in the Neon Pink color which fit very nicely but was slightly big at the waist. The size 0 fit slightly higher on the waist but was definitely a little too snug on the hips. I left this one at the store and decided not to red phone it but am wondering if that was a mistake.

Linen Bow Short (size 4) in lustrous blue
Although I usually wear skirts and dresses all summer I have been having trouble finding new ones that I like. Thus, shorts. These are ADORABLE. Love love love them. These are a size 4 which felt slightly big so I redphoned the 2's which are on there way to me for $14 and some change. Delish.

The linen was a lovely surprise and the fit was quite drapey and relaxed but I am not a leopard gal. LOVE it on accessories but not in clothing (although love it on others). I believe these were marked down to $39.99 + 30% so I think that's an excellent deal for lovely linen pants.

Cafe Capri in natural or white? (size 2)
These are basically nice and sort of tempting but.... the white is see through - as in you can see the outlines of pockets through the pants. Also there is a lot of material through the upper area - the pants lie slightly higher than I like (since I am very short-waisted). A pass, but I can see why people really like these.

Antique Paisley Tunic (XS) in  Coastline Blue
I was sort of hoping this was a light summer dress... oops not so. It's a great little beach cover-up but I would definitely need to size down, quite wide and shapeless.

This is for comic effect only. When I picked up the XXS (there were only XL left) I almost thought I had picked up a crewcuts item. This is way too small. Love the stripes and the idea but the neckline is not for me. Plus the material was definitely thinner than I was expecting. The stripes are adorable, of course, but I would definitely need my regular XS.

The 30% rolls on. Anyone else go in for a 2nd or 3rd helping?

  1. I tried on the new colorblocked top and liked it, but was shocked when I saw it was rayon. No thank you! Love the bow shorts on you. I had to size up in these but that's just because I have larger thighs. Shorts rarely look decent on me, but these are the closest that have looked "Cute" in a while :) Great reviews--thanks!

    1. I thought the shorts really looked cute on you. I hope I am okay ordering my normal size 2. I thought about just taking the 4's in store but they were just a little too blousy for my taste. It's funny because I loved the colorblock top on you but it just did nothing for me. The colors are scrumptious.

    2. My experience with linen shorts is they end up looking quite baggy in the rear so you were right to go with the size 2. Plus, I have them in size 4, and I'm usually a size 6 and you're slimmer than me. :) Now I need to get them from the b&m for that price! Thanks for the reviews!

    3. So glad to hear that! I'm super excited to get these this week - it's been super hot and I love the idea of a breezy, linen short!

    1. Oh good! They are so cute. I've really become a shorts wearer this season so I hope the size 2 is a good fit. I'll post another pic when I receive them.

  3. I love my linen bow shorts. The colors are great. It would be nice if retailers could get the white pants thing straightened out. See thru is not good.

    1. I know - what's the deal with that? I've even found that with some of the khaki colored stuff at JC. Drives me nuts.
