Hera Feather Dress Review and Help!

Ah... double post day. So I finally received my coveted Hera Feather Dress from ebay and I was so excited. And I'm STILL excited but I think it definitely needs a few tweaks. question is - do I try to alter the size 2 down or do I just buy the size 0 (which I think I need).

Please help!

Hera Feather Dress (size 2)

This is it. It's hard to tell but the top sits a little low and the waist is sitting at my dropwaist. I'm very very shortwaisted. It tends to droop a little in the front since it is not that snug.

Another normal photo.

Here it is with my binder clipping the waist in at the back. Not bad right? Side note - reminds me of trying on wedding dresses. I thought it was hilarious that they just used humongous binder clips to cinch things in. Tee hee.

Here it is with waist cinched and straps taken up a bit.

Here it is with straps up and waist released.

So I can't quite tell how this dress is supposed to fit. Should the waist be right at my natural waist? Then I probably need a smaller size. Or does it kind of work slightly slouchy and drop-waisted? It's really hard to tell from these photos but all the clipping did make a difference but I'm not sure it's worth a) trying to get this one tailored b) going for the size 0 and trying to sell this one or c) just leaving this one alone and going slouchy.

Opinions please! I want to wear this dress soon!

  1. OK - my two cents:

You have such am amazing figure that I don't think is done justice leaving the dress the way it is. Maybe take it to a tailor (especially if you have a good one) and she what she thinks, but I'm sure the dress can be much more flattering on you than it appears now. As you haven't tried the size 0 as far as I know, you many have fit problems with that one too, so I would get this one tailored if possible. The colours are gorgeous!

    1. Thank you so much for your compliment and comment! I love the colors too. And I love the dress but yes it has some fit problems. Really excellent point about the size 0 potentially having the same problems. I have an excellent tailor so hopefully she can help without costing an arm and a leg. Thanks again for your comment!

  2. I concur...it shouldn't be too difficult to tailor since it's sleeveless, and you wouldn't want to lose the nice drapery by having the skirt part too snug. Beautiful print!

  3. I agree. Have it tailored. Instead of fooling around w/selling it and buying a new one, just take the money and put it on alterations. I love the colors :)

  4. Operach,
Love the dress on you! This is a little OT, but I wanted to ask u if you've tried strapless dresses from anthropologie before. You and are about the same size and there is a strapless dress on sale i like that i'd like to consider buying but can wear post preg. Since I can't really try it on I thought I could gauge based on your experience. TIA!

    1. Hi Cuckoo,
I never try on strapless dresses because I am so busty and it would require me wearing what I call my "cage bra". That being said, I live very close to an Anthro and if you'd like me to try something on and post a review on here I would be extremely happy to do so. I have some returns anyway.

    2. Thank u so much for the offer to try on and review. If u do happen to drop by anthro and see in ur sale section strapless dress by label Vanessa Virginia. The specific dress is called antumbra dress and it's a silk dress with a graphic kinda mod print of orange half circles chain links running vertically. It's no longer available online but if u google antumbra dress it will direct u to the anthro site with a pic. This dress may not be available in ur store but they also have this other strapless by same label and it's basically a muted yellow and moss green dress with fish print on the skirt portion and also has a black belt tied into a bow in back. I figured size measurement should be the same since its same label but this dress is made of cotton. Thank u sooooo much!!!!!!

    3. I see the Antumbra dress online but it says it's by Maeve. I can't find the other dress you are talking about but I will probably be stopping by Anthro on Thursday and see if I can find either one!
