J. Crew Review - Pleated Jardin Skirt in Heart Throb

Everyone seems to be jumping on the boat with the new heart print from J Crew. I am not so drawn to it but thought I would take a peek at the skirt version.

Pleated Jardin Skirt in Heart Throb (Petite 6)

First off, the P6 was too big in the waist so I would definitely want a P4. I do like the length of the Petite.  The skirt is a lovely fabric and drapers fairly well but I don't exactly feel like it does wonders for my body. My waist has thickened a bit since baby and these kinds of skirts don't do it any favors. However, if this kind of skirt is your thing - it's a lovely! Very unique. Just can't do the heart thing.

However I'm still obsessing over this:

Especially after reading A Bigger Closet's Review HERE
Didn't love this print in the Jules Dress because the fabric didn't drape well. The skirt is a slightly thicker fabric I believe so.... just waiting for a price drop and percent off. Wish it was offered in petites. My husband will hate it but I can't help myself :)

J. Crew Reviews - Bennett Chino, Daisylace Tee, Eden Cardigan

Popped in the other day to try to get an adjustment on my lady lace popover - happily it worked! For the first time ever, the SA let me return and rebuy it at a savings of $60!!! Thank goodness - I really do think I'll find a lot of use for the sweater - love the long arms, nice fit and perfect length (for the short-torsoed at least).

Anyway - here are some other items I spotted...

Daisylace Tee in white (XS)

Oops. Way too small. The lace was so tight around my arms I almost couldn't move them. Also way too transparent. It's a sweet little tee but probably better for the less well-endowed.

Perfect Shirt in floral (size 2)

The sweet SA brought this for me because he thought it was less "in your face" than the dress (see below) but I actually feel more comfortable in a bright floral dress than I do a shirt. It's too 70's Hawaiian gone wrong for me but I'm sure styling it without Xmas green corduroys might help :)

Jules Dress in floral (size 2)

I love the jules dress in wildcat - it drapes well, has a fun retro feel to it, is super comfortable and doesn't wrinkle. This dress however has a totally different fit because of the fabric. There is also a seam that runs around the dress at high hip level and it creates a bit of a bump in fabric. I would definitely want to size down on this one but it was so unflattering, I didn't bother.

I'm not actually sure this is the classic flare jean but I think so. I will say - these are SOOOO comfortable. Slightly high rise to hold in all your post-mommy jiggles and the material is lovely and soft. I'm really trying NOT to buy any jeans right now so I resisted but they were on sale for $44.99 + 30% off in store.

Eden Cardigan (XS) in Heather Charcoal?

The color code is HCA so I'm gonna say Heather Charcoal - it's a color not currently on the website. I truly believe the the Eden is the perfect "boyfriend" cardigan. Just long enough, just fitted enough, nice merino wool. I'm throwing out my old grey go to sweater for this one. With 30% and teacher discount I snagged it for $29. Not too shabby.

Bennett Chino (size 2) in Vintage Elm $49.99

There it is, my booty on the internet. Not my favorite angle to show as it is a substantial booty but I did want to show that they are fitted in the rear without being obscene. I love these pants. Kind of remind me of the Riveter or Troupers from last year. I have too many bottoms in this color or I would have snagged them. Will wait for redwood to go on sale.

I think I am finally shopped out. Anthro has really been getting me with their recent 30% off.

Hope everyone is enjoying the last of the holiday shopping!!!

J Crew Sale Reviews - Silk Elodie Blouse, Vintage Cotton Rugby-Stripe Tee, Lady Lace Popover, Factory Blackwatch Tartan Wool Pants

So my saga of sickness continues! After semi-recovering from the flu, I now have pink eye and another sinus infection. I have no idea what is going on with my poor little body but I am tired of being sick! Luckily my doctor loaded me up on some meds so I am planning on being healthy for Thanksgiving. Ahem. Possibly for the rest of the year - I think I've done my time.

Anyway - finally got the energy to try on my sale items... here they are in no particular order :)

Silk Elodie Blouse (TXS) in Grafitti Green

Taking a cue from A Bigger Closet, I decided to try this blouse in a Tall XS. Although I am by no means tall, I have freakishly long arms compared to my torso so I thought it might work. Untucked, the shirt definitely looks too long. Tucked it better but the arms are too long and the tight cuffs make them blouse out in a sort of pirate sleeve way. Not loving it. Boo. Not sure I would love it in the right size anyway. When I originally tried it on here I was having doubts.

The material on this is a little funky but I like it. the cream stripes are definitely a bit see through which is probably why this color still lingers in the sale section. The fit is quite flattering - fitted but not skin tight. it was slightly pulling at the buttons but I would probably unbutton a few anyway. Like it but perhaps I need to face my newfound stripe addiction head on and return it.

Lady Lace Popover (XS) in Navy

This truly is a lovely little sweater - hugs in just the right places, nice open neckline, perfect length. Still a bit pricey for me with the 30% off so I'm not sure. The navy does not show off the lace as well as the other colors but it is still quite lovely.

Factory Black Watch Tartan Wool Pant (size 2)

This combo is straight from Shopping with M who did it here . Such a great combo. Holiday done right I say! My left hip looks really bit here... more on that later...

Most J Crew pants give me total waist gap - as you can see from the above picture the waist band lays perfectly flat. Yahoo!

So I really love these pants. I do not love wool but these do not bother me at all - soft, lined, yay. My one complaint is that they make my hips look a little big and that is because there is some major lumpiness where the pockets are. I am trying to show it in the close-ups but you can't really tell. I think it is called "cheap pocket construction syndrome" and I definitely think it makes me look slightly hippy. I might get over it though because these pants are wonderful.

That's it for now. back to meds and bed :) or chasing a 2 year old...

J Crew Reviews - Going Wild!

I'm still sure if I am bold enough to wear leopard/cheetah print on clothing. Love it on accessories. For your consideration:

Natasha Top in Wildcat (size 2) and High Waisted Skinny Jean in Night Owl Wash (size 26)

Normally, anything with the description "high-waisted" does not work for me. I am very short-waisted so high waisted things end up looking like something between empire and grandpa. Maybe it's because I sized down in these jeans. Sometimes I am 26, sometimes a 27. The 26 was tight for sure but I think it would stretch over time. They didn't have a 27 for me to try on. I think they are super cute. The Natasha Top (which does not seem to be online in the Wildcat print) was not so great. It runs slightly large and the armholes were definitely gaping.

Jules Dress in wildcat (size 2)

After seeing Audreybella try this dress on here , I knew I had to as well. It is divine! Fully lined, drapey, delicious. The background color of the print is not so lovely with my skin tone so I am beyond excited that they just released this dress in fresh strawberry. I would prefer something cooler-toned like blue but maybe the fresh strawberry color won't be psychedelic. I would also like to try on a size 0 but am a bit worried about the length. Really lovely piece!

Goldmine Sweater (size XS) on sale for $89.99

Oh how I love gold anything! And this is a perfect shade of gold. It is akin, however, to wearing a brillo pad. Well, maybe not that bad but the metallic thread is really stiff and itchy. It is a shame because I am in love with the color and shape. I am not in love with the price, even on sale.

J. Crew - Purplicious!

Those of you with small children may get the reference. My daughter has become obsessed with all things princess, fairy or pink. I have no idea where this came from. I was not particularly girly as a wee one but she seems to be making up for that! Anyway, one of her favorite series of books is Pinkilicious! Loves them. There are actually a number of excellent children's series out right now.

We've gone through the entirety of the Fancy Nancy tome, most of Corduroy, Pinkilicious, Mr. Putter and Tabby and Madeline. It's been fun to rediscover some old classics and get acquainted with some new ones...

But I digress... on to J Crew Purple Reviews!

Blythe Blouse (size 2) in fiesta purple, Cafe Trouser (size 0) in desert on sale for $29.99 in store

I tried on the trousers before in a size 2 and they were a bit generous (especially give how JC stuff stretches out) but the 0's were definitely snug. Such a good sale price but I couldn't bite. In general I am feeling in between sizes in JC bottoms. I have also tried on the Blythe Blouse before. I don't love it in this color - I LOVE purple but this shade made me look kind of odd. Maybe if my hair was more a true blonde shade? Definitely prefer the extravagant green shade. Still great blouse - could do a size 0 or 2.

Vintage Thermal Henley in stripe (XS) in-store only color and No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Metallic Boucle (size 2) on sale

There has been a LOT of talk about the henley. It is super soft and cozy but I knew it would not work for me. The size XS would have been fine if I was not super busty. If I sized up, I knew I wouldn't like the shape as much. The skirt is lovely and I should know what it's called but I can't figure it out. Thanks to Great - it is the No.2 Pencil Skirt in Metallic Boucle - seemingly sold out online. It's a wool boucle with some metallic thread running through it. Gorgeous, but the thickness of the fabric added a little thickness to my frame which I did not like.

Patsy Dress (size 2) on sale

Again, I should know what this is called... Thanks to Gigi over at Gigi's Gone Shopping for letting me know that this is the Patsy Dress. It's a sweet little piece and very comfy. I would have to size up because the top is tight across my chest for the afore-mentioned reason. This shade of purple was more flattering I thought (it's probably also called fiesta but in this fabric I like it more)

Boardwalk-stripe Zipper Tee (size XXS and XS) respectively, in navy, on sale for $34.99

I'm not really sure why I keep on getting so excited about t-shirts with zippers, but I do. I had always noticed this in store but never striped it on. LOVE IT. The little zipper on the sleeves are so cute and it is comfy and a lovely new take on stripes. I did not buy it, but am keeping it mind for the next 30% off promo which is surely around the corner.

I'm purpled out... will be back with a few more reviews tomorrow!

J. Crew Reviews - New Arrivals Part III - Polka Dot Popover, Perfect shirt in Blackwatch Plaid, Cowlneck Poncho

've been taking a bit of time off from the Crewlade but I am finding some of their new items irresistible. I grabbed this new shirt during the 25% off promo and probably won't keep it but definitely love it!

Perfect Shirt in Blackwatch Plaid (size 2)

There is something about a really dark plaid that seems so sophisticated. I'm pretty much a fan of anything plaid but I love that this shirt could probably be worn with a beautiful black ball gown and still look fabulous. The fit is spot on - maybe even a tiny bit snugger than some of my others shirts in this size. The plaid is QUITE dark. I think the photo is pretty accurate. I was a bit surprised when this shirt arrived tied in an intricate origami ball but I guess that is to showcase the "lightweight suckered cotton for a touch of textural interest". The material is very light for a winter shirt.

I put a lot of pictures of this one up because I know a lot of people are interested in this top. I'm not loving it. It's totally fine but I wish it were a nice navy color and the material is that silk/cotton blend that tears really easily. The shortness didn't bother me because a) I probably wouldn't wear it tucked in and b)  I have a really short torso.

Cowlneck Poncho (XXS) sold out

This is one of those items that I became bizarrely obsessed with after I had initially poo-pooed it. My PS tracked down the last XXS in the country (according to her) which was quite miraculous. It's so super cozy and the material is very "rich" looking. The only complaint I have is that it is weirdly tight across my hips - something I never noticed when I originally tried it on. Now I'm debating trying to locate an XS or just make it work. Or take it to the tailor to see if they can open the sides a bit.

Any thoughts?

J Crew Reviews - Vintage Cotton Stripe Shoulder Zip Tee, Tartan Shirt, Unknown Dress

I couldn't resist popping in for the 30% off in-store promo but didn't really see much that caught my eye. I do find that I am continually drawn to the same things at J Crew - well done stripes and button shirts. While there is nothing wrong with this, per se, I'm trying to branch out into other areas of fashion! That being said - the good, the okay and the ugly.

Unknown Tartan Shirt (size 4)

I literally can't help myself when it comes to Tartan prints in fall. This lovely doesn't seem to be up on the website yet but I love it. The red and green stripes are quite bright and provide a nice pop of color. I usually wear a size 2 in these shirts and I'm sure that would have been fine - I was just too lazy to look for one.

Vintage Cotton Stripe Shoulder Zip Tee (various) on sale for $29.99

Flapper Grey (XXS)

Spicy Cinnamon (XS)

Navy (XS)

Navy (XXS)

I have professed my love for this shirt before here . I keep on swearing off stripes but that is difficult when that is all you see in all the stores! Anyway - couldn't resist the grey one since it doesn't feel quite as nautical. As you can see from the pics the XXS is more fitted but I like the casualness of the XS. Plus I'm quite busty so a little extra room never hurts.

Unknown Wool Knit Sale Dress (size 2)

I was quite surprised that I couldn't find this dress anywhere on J Crew's website. The material is a thick knit, truly yummy, and the overall shape is lovely. HOWEVER, the hips are knitted for someone with much larger hips than your average JC size 2 so they stick out really oddly. It's a shame because it's a nice dress but the hip thing is a deal breaker.

Can't believe JC is running another 30% off promo this morning.... come on Cowlneck Poncho... pop back... please....
